Featured Artist

Guy du Toit

Guy du Toit works in a wide range of media including bronze, steel, stone, wood, and pen and ink. Du Toit graduated from the University of Pretoria in 1982 with a BA in Fine Art. He has run numerous workshops, curated exhibitions, and lectured at a number of South African academic institutions. He currently works from his studio in Swavelpoort and is a part-time lecturer at the University of Pretoria. Du Toit’s earliest work was influenced by his experiences in the South African National Defence Force and steeped in social commentary. In later works, du Toit creates bronze casts of objects in his immediate environment, which reflect his concerns with the ambiguity between reality and illusion. Du Toit’s more recent works include anthropomorphic long-eared hares, which gently observe and comment with humour on human behaviour. Du Toit has been the recipient of several sought-after awards including winning the FNB Vita Art Now competition in 1993. He has exhibited extensively both nationally and internationally since 1989, including in Germany, the Netherlands, England and the United States, amongst others. Du Toit has work represented in public, corporate, and private collections throughout South Africa.
