A sparkling array
12 Nov 2010
Strauss & Co is holding its first dedicated jewellery sale on 22 November 2010 at the Vineyard Hotel in Newlands. The sale includes pieces by illustrious names in the world of jewellery including Cartier, Carlo Giuliano, van Cleef & Arpels, Harry Winston and Bulgari, together with watches by Patek Philippe, Rolex and Jaeger-Le Coultre.
Transcending the boundaries of jewellery and art is an amethyst and gold fringe necklace designed by the well-known artist, Vladimir Tretchikoff, for his wife, Natalie. This glamorous couple became very much part of the Cape Town social set during the 1950s and 1960s, Natalie often attracting great attention dressed in ball gowns and jewellery designed by her devoted husband. Marjorie Reynolds, daughter of the celebrated South African artist, Dorothy Kay, commissioned two index finger rings by Cape Town jewellers, Uwe Koetter and Abe Pass. These unique rings, composed of diamonds, emeralds and precious stones reflect Marjorie’s heightened theatrical style and her individualistic personality.
A diamond and pearl brooch, formerly the property of the late Countess of Kenmare, partially composed of tie pins belonging to her late husbands and designed by her son, Rory Cameron, the notable author and landscape gardener, is sure to catch the eye of a discerning buyer.
The cover lots are a Victorian diamond, emerald and ruby brooch designed as a beetle, which can also be worn as a pendant, and an enamel, pink topaz and diamond pendant by Carlo Giuliano.
Viewing will be from Thursday 18 until Sunday 21 November at the Strauss offices, telephone 021 683 6560.
