The Mount Nelson, Cape Town: Last night at a charity auction conducted by Stephan Welz, Managing Director of Strauss & Co on behalf of WWF, the opportunity of naming a new found species of iris raised R550 000.

The Mount Nelson, Cape Town: Tonight at a charity auction conducted by Stephan Welz, Managing Director of Strauss & Co on behalf of WWF, the opportunity of naming a new found species of iris raised R550 000.
After competitive bidding, the successful bidders, Mike and Rose Heinabach bought the rights to name the rare newly discovered West Coast iris. This is the first time that a plant species name has been auctioned in Africa.
Dr Morne’ du Plessis, CEO of WWF was ecstatic at the generosity of the Heinabach’s.
