Free valuations at Strauss & Co, Johannesburg
22 Feb 2012
Strauss & Co, the global leader in the South African art auction market, is offering valuations on works of art. Senior Art Specialist, Emma Bedford, will be in Strauss & Cos Houghton offices on 6 and 7 March to provide valuations and advice to collectors and source works of art for upcoming auctions.
Bedford joined the Strauss team after a distinguished career as Senior Curator and Head of Art Collections at Iziko South African National Gallery and as Director of Goodman Gallery Cape. Having produced exhibitions and publications on South Africa’s top artists from Maggie Laubser, Irma Stern and Freida Lock to William Kentridge, Robert Hodgins and Marlene Dumas, Bedford is regarded as one of the top experts in the field. She was the only South African invited to attend the International Curatorial Workshop at The Museum of Modern Art, New York in March 2005.
She forms part of Strauss & Co’s formidable team of art experts that includes Stephan Welz, Managing Director and auctioneer, and Ann Palmer, Head of Department. All three have been active in the fine art field for several decades and have been instrumental in developing public, corporate and private collections of South African and international art.
Strauss & Co holds auctions records for Anton van Wouw, Frans Oerder, Hugo Naudé, Pieter Wenning, J H Pierneef, Fanie Eloff, Dorothy Kay, Irma Stern, Maud Sumner, Wolf Kibel, Walter Battiss, Rosamund Everard-Steenkamp, Robert Hodgins, Johannes Meintjes, Stanley Pinker, Cecil Skotnes, Lucas Sithole, Sydney Kumalo, Jane Alexander and many more.
