Decorative Arts highlights for 8th April On Line auction

The April 2016 Strauss & Co On-Line auction opens with 43 lots of colourful glass from the 1930s to 1980s. The majority of this attractive group was acquired during the 1960s and represents some of the most innovative glass blowers from Sweden, France and Italy. From Paul Kedelelv’s inspired ‘Coquille’ bowls to Vicke Linstrand’s spheroid three dimensional sommerso glass vases, the choice is diverse and exciting. South African glass blowers are represented by Shirley Cloete and David Reade. Affordable and functional, this collection of jewelled molten glass sculptures should entice those who have glass collections and aspiring collectors to enter the cyberspace of bidding on line.

Oriental collectors with an interest in silver, ceramics and bronzes will find many small treasures in this auction. A Japanese silver tray and twelve sake cups, retailed by Asahi, represents excellent workmanship and quality. There are several lots of beautifully decorated porcelain which may be used and enjoyed as much today as when they were first made. Finally, for collectors of the exotic, those who recall the famous Turkish cigarette brand ‘Abdulla’ will appreciate a cased amber and jewelled cigarette holder from the 1930’s and, equally, a carved amber cheroot holder carved in the form of a shapely leg.

Strauss On Line has previously achieved a 90% success rate for silver lots offered and this auction should be no exception, with a wide variety of silver tea services, wine coasters, Sabbath candlesticks and photograph frames on offer.
