Browse, bid or buy from the luxury of your own home on the latest Strauss & Co online auction from 15 – 22 February 2016
The next of Strauss & Co’s very successful online auctions, which opens for bidding next week, will feature an exciting selection of affordable traditional, modern and contemporary South African and international art, books, decorative arts and jewellery.
Strauss & Co’s online bidding platform remains South Africa’s first dedicated, online-only art and antiques auction website, and provides both local and international art collectors with the opportunity to join the large and growing global population of art collectors who add to their collections by participating in online auctions. Strauss & Co’s online auctions come with the assurance that the works for sale have been checked, catalogued and scrutinised by Strauss & Co’s team of specialists, guaranteeing the quality and authenticity for which the company is known.
Online auctions have the added benefit that they are secure and provide even new collectors with a safe, comfortable user-friendly bidding platform. The auctions run for 8 days and it is possible to view the bidding from wherever you may find an internet connection without the pressure associated with a live auction.
Among the highlights in the fine art category are a number of exciting works by Robert Hodgins, including the bold lithograph, Smile for The Camera. Looking forward to the large Walter Battiss retrospective scheduled at the Wits Art Museum later this year, a wonderful selection of the artist’s screenprints is on offer, including examples of his popular Orgy works. For aficionados of contemporary art, works by the likes of Zander Blom and Claudette Schreuders feature prominently. Traditionalists will find a treasure trove of Hugo Naudé oils as well as JH Pierneef linocuts and watercolours. Other highlights include works by Andrew Verster, Peter Clarke, Johannes Phokela, and Jan Neethling. The sale also features a number of early Hylton Nel ceramics and a ceramic plate by Robert Hodgins.

To complement the broad selection of affordable art, the online sale also includes books and decorative arts. An interesting selection of art books will appear on the auction, including a number from a single-owner collection, many of which are signed by the artists. These would be of particular interest to anyone starting a collection of South African art.
Decorative Arts includes a collection of copper vessels highlighted by a brandy still, a selection of oriental ceramics and glass. Silver features prominently on our online sales, and this sale is no exception.
