In a trailblazing initiative, South Africa’s foremost auction house, Strauss & Co, has entered a joint venture with leading online wine merchant, Wine Cellar, and top sommelier, Higgo Jacobs, to launch a Fine Wine Auction programme.

Following their most successful auction to date held in Cape Town in March this year, Strauss & Co is delighted to offer the balance of pieces from the Dr JR and Mary Strong Collection of Chinese and Japanese Ceramics and Works of Art, as well as those from the Estate Late Sol Munitz Collection, both seasoned collectors.

Strauss & Co, the world’s foremost auction house for South African art, is delighted to announce details of its forthcoming Johannesburg sale at the Wanderers Club on 20 May. Following shortly on the company’s recording-breaking R106-million sale in Cape Town, this offering includes important artworks by moderns Alexis Preller, Irma Stern and Anton van Wouw, as well as contemporaries William Kentridge, Penny Siopis and Athi-Patra Ruga.

Two triumphant still lifes by Irma Stern lead a strong selection of paintings by important post-war artists Walter Battiss, Christo Coetzee, Erik Laubscher and Alexis Preller on offer at Strauss & Co’s forthcoming Johannesburg sale on Monday, 20 May.

Strauss & Co, South Africa’s premier art auction house, is pleased to announce Saturday Live, the first-ever live auction to be held at the company’s newly expanded premises in Houghton, Johannesburg. The first in the new series of sales takes place on Saturday 8 June at 11.00 am, and offers collectors access to a curated catalogue of mid-range artworks by established artists, including Esther Mahlangu, Sam Nhlengethwa, Deborah Bell, Peter Clarke and William Kentridge.
