About Art Club

At Strauss & Co, we believe that artistic pleasure extends beyond simply viewing works of art; it also comes from the conversations and connections that art inspires.

In February 2023, we launched Art Club in Johannesburg, followed by its debut a month later, with a life drawing session, at our Cape Town branch. Since then, Art Club has grown in scope and ambition, engaging practitioners, topics, and formats across Cape Town and Johannesburg.

Adding to Strauss & Co’s repertoire of educational programming, including talks, walkabouts, non-selling art exhibitions and collaborations with industry pioneers, Art Club serves as a platform for both new and seasoned art lovers and collectors to come together and engage in meaningful discussions.

We are thrilled to announce the launch of Art Club London. Over the coming year, Art Club London will host a series of live and digital events, continuing our tradition of education and dialogue with a focus on modern and contemporary African art. We will highlight influential works by long-overlooked modernists and explore the evolving contemporary scene.

The launch event on September 20th will take place at Tate Modern, featuring a focus on the current exhibition dedicated to celebrated visual activist Zanele Muholi.

Additionally, Strauss & Co will launch an open-access online Art Club on October 2, 2024, with an introductory theme of “African artists to know”. This platform will host regular educational events like art talks and webinars to complement our in-person activities.

We are delighted to continue our work in broadening international interest with our Autumn program of events. Our goal is to celebrate the great creativity of the African Continent and its growing connections in this great city,” said Kate Fellens, Head of International Business Development.
