South African 1973- 

South African artist Alex Emsley is known for his hyper-realistic paintings that explore the genre of still life. His preferred subjects are flowers, but those that are imperfect and damaged instead of being picture-perfect. In this, he finds more of a challenge and an avenue for the exploration of his meticulous painting technique. Owing to the ephemeral nature of his subject, Emsley works from multiple photographs taken of a composition.
