Andrew Kayser

South African 

Andrew Kayser (b. East London, South Africa) graduated from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague, in 2001 and returned to South Africa in 2005. After overcoming a struggle with alcoholism, he
resumed his art practice in 2014. His first solo exhibition, At Home After Dark, took place in 2017, and by 2023, Kayser had consolidated his focus on oil painting with Fragments of Longer Stories at Graham Contemporary, Johannesburg.


Kayser has participated in numerous group exhibitions and major art fairs such as Enter Art Fair (Copenhagen), AKAA Art and Design Fair (Paris), and Investec Cape Town Art Fair. His works are held in collections nationally and internationally.

Kayser’s oil paintings explore the suburban landscape as a collision of inner and outer realities, focusing on themes of doubt, ambiguity, and contradiction. His works invite viewers to confront the
disquiet of suburban life, offering poignant, melancholic, and open-ended interpretations.
