Angeline Masuku

South Africa 1967-

Masuku was born and raised in Zululand’s Empembeni village where she acquired the art of basket weaving from her aunt at the age of eight. Passing on the skill to her sisters, children, and eventually the entire community, she empowered them to use this craft as a means to educate their children and escape the cycle off poverty. Masuku now presents her community's basket-making prowess to audiences worldwide, including at the International Folk Art Market, Santa Fe in 2016, who she had worked closely with since 2007.

In 2007, Masuku won the FNB Vita Award for Craft, giving her international acclaim as she then exhibited in both Italy and New York.
