Anitra Nettleton

South African 1950- 

Anitra Nettleton is an emeritus Professor who taught at the University of the Witwatersrand for 35 years. An author and internationally recognised traditional African Art expert, she commenced, in retirement, to produce fantastical ceramic hand-painted vases. The apparent gaiety and frivolity of the finished vases belie the serious message of concern for the need for awareness of the fragility of the plant world and its ever-growing disappearance. With intricate details of both flowers and stamens, each vase is a functional, unique, and brightly coloured composition.
