Bastiaan van Stenis

South African 1981- 

Bastiaan van Stenis is a mostly self-taught South African artist from Cape Town. He is half Dutch and half South African and is the descendant of the 19th Century English painter Thomas Baines. After school in 2000, van Stenis dedicated himself to becoming a full-time artist. He works mainly with oil paint on canvas but often utilises acrylic paint, cloth, wax, hair, glue, and found objects. He has also worked on sculptures and done taxidermy. He has exhibited in both solo and group shows locally and internationally – the Netherlands, Germany, and Australia. Van Stenis lives and works in Hermanus, Western Cape.
