Artists

Herman Niebuhr is a full-time artist and teacher. He holds a Fine Arts Degree from Rhodes University, where he received awards for painting. He currently resides in the Klein Karoo, having spent the bulk of his career in Johannesburg, where he founded the Lilian Road Studios. Niebuhr's work, comprised primarily of oil paintings, is said to resemble the figurative impulse of old master paintings with an added contemporary flavour, which resides “beneath the surface.” His work is collected both locally and internationally and hangs in private and public collections.
