Pioneering photographer James Barnor, born in 1929 in Accra, Ghana, has a six-decade career that spans street, studio, fashion, and documentary photography. He established the Ever Young studio in Accra in 1953, chronicling Ghana’s social and political changes. Barnor moved to London in 1959, where he contributed to Drum magazine, capturing the experiences of London’s African diaspora. Returning to Ghana in the early 1970s, he founded its first colour processing lab and worked in the country for 20 years before relocating again to London in 1994. In 2020, Barnor received an Honorary Fellowship from The Royal Photographic Society, cementing his legacy as a key figure in photography and African visual history.
