Artists

Joël Mpah Dooh is a painter and multi-media Cameroonian artist. He received his training from the Municipal Conservatory of Fine Arts in Amiens, France and currently resides and works in Douala, Cameroon. Although he initially pursued a law degree in France, Dooh's passion for art led him to enrol in art history classes during his spare time. After completing his law degree, he returned to Cameroon where he worked as a law clerk until 1998 when he won an art competition and decided to pursue art full-time. Dooh's works delve into the themes of identity and reinvention, and he is interested in experimenting with different mediums on paper, canvas, corrugated iron, and Perspex.

He has participated in several prestigious events such as the Dakar Biennale in 1998 and 2006, the Havana Biennale in 2000, and the group exhibition "Lines of Connection" organized by the MTN Art Foundation in 2001 where he exhibited alongside artists such as William Kentridge and Kendell Geers. He has also had solo and group exhibitions in various countries including Austria, Cameroon, Cuba, France, Kenya, Senegal, and the United States of America.
