Kerri-Jane Evans was born in Johannesburg in 1967. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Rhodes University in 1990, with a distinction in painting. After completing her degree, she taught at various art and cultural institutions and also spent a year managing a small hotel in Madagascar. She became a full-time artist in the early 2000s and moved to India in 2002; returning to South Africa after six years. Evans has exhibited often with Everard Read in both Johannesburg and Cape Town. Her paintings are emotive portraits in which she skilfully plays with light and colour
