Lin Barrie

Zimbabwean 1959- 

Lin Barrie is an artist who expresses her emotions and ideas through painting, poetry, and art installations, deeply inspired by nature, people, and her surroundings. She believes in capturing the essence of her subjects through direct observation and drawing, which she translates into meaningful abstractions. Her work, ranging from landscapes to figures and wildlife, reflects her belief that all things are interconnected.

Using natural materials like earth pigments and found objects, Lin creates paintings and monotypes, blending traditional and unconventional tools. Her artistic journey began after studying Fine Art in Durban, followed by a career in textile design. In 1991, she transitioned to full-time fine art, inspired by various artistic techniques from around the world.

Lin has collaborated with her daughter, Kelli Barker, and other artists across different mediums, creating art that often supports community, cultural, and environmental causes. She lives in Zimbabwe, splitting her time between Harare, the Save Valley Conservancy, and Mahenye Village, alongside her partner, conservationist Clive Stockil.
