Liz Vorster

South African 1992-

Liz Vorster (b. 1992, Pietermaritzburg) grew up exploring the farmlands and mountains of the North-Eastern Cape, an experience that deeply informs her artistic practice. After matriculating
from DSG in Grahamstown, she earned a BA in Visual Communications from Vega in Cape Town. She then traveled and worked in Vietnam, where she solidified her path as an artist before returning to South Africa to pursue a BA Fine Art at the University of the Free State, graduating cum laude in 2023. Vorster has participated in various group exhibitions both in Vietnam and South Africa and completed residencies in India, Richmond, Knysna, and the Free State.

Her work reflects her personal spiritual journey, often exploring themes of self-awareness and universal truths. In *Veils of Perception*, she presents a faceless figure striving to transcend superficial realities, inviting viewers to join the exploration of their own minds. Her method of drawing, with its layered mark-making, seeks to capture the unseen and elusive, referencing Plato’s *Allegory of the Cave* as an intellectual framework for her installation series *Runaway Sticks*, which delves into “mind-territories”.
