Obie Oberholzer

South African 1947- 

South African photographer Obie Oberholzer was born on a farm outside Pretoria in 1947. He received a degree in graphic design from Stellenbosch University in 1970 and studied photography at the Bavarian State Institute of Photography, where he obtained a German National diploma in 1972 and a Master’s in Photography from the same institution in 1979. He lectured in photography at the Technikon Natal from 1975 to 1983 and then took a position at Rhodes University in Grahamstown in 1984, where he stayed for about 18 years. Oberholzer is known for his extensive travels and has authored numerous photographic books, including his most recent work, Happysadland, published in 2022, which is his 14th book.
