Pretoria-based artist Philip Badenhorst obtained a degree in Fine Art from Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education and was twice awarded the Gregoire Boonzaier Bursary for Painting. He spent many years lecturing painting at both the University of Potchefstroom and the University of Pretoria, and has enjoyed an extensive career as a painter, including numerous solo and group exhibitions. His work is represented in a number of South African public art collections. Badenhorst’s expressionistic oil paintings are noted for their colourful and richly seductive impasto surfaces. As an artist, he draws the viewer into his personal space, exposing his inner-most self, his fears and vulnerability through his depiction of the human figure, water, trees, flowers and foliage.
