Pitsho Mafolo

Congolese 1977-

Pitsho Mafolo (b. 1977, Democratic Republic of Congo) is an artist whose work explores the relationship between cultural identity and human behavior, particularly focusing on the crises and fragmentation of African culture due to foreign hegemony. His paintings often feature hybrid figures—part human, part animal—symbolizing the fractured nature of African identity. Mafolo employs techniques like collage, golden leaf, and unfinished lines in his work, which evoke an infinite world and reflect his evolving artistic journey.

Mafolo’s open-minded approach to experimentation with new styles and techniques is a hallmark of his practice. His work is included in notable collections such as the UNESCO Collection (France), the King of Jordan’s private collection, and the D.R. Congolese Presidential Collection.
