ruby onyinyechi amanze

Nigerian 1982- 

ruby onyinyechi amanze*, born in 1982 in Port-Harcourt, Nigeria, and raised in the United Kingdom, is a Brooklyn-based artist known for her mixed-media, paper-based drawings. amanze holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, and a Master of Fine Arts degree from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. She was also a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka between 2012 and 2013. Her work, influenced by architecture, photography, dance, and printmaking, explores themes of hybridity and displacement, exploring space, movement, and non-linear narratives. Her art includes recurring imagery such as birds, motorcycles, and swimming pools. amanze has exhibited widely, with works in public collections such as the Jewish Museum and the Studio Museum in Harlem.
