Sabelo Mlangeni

South African 1980- 

Born in Driefontein in 1980, Sabelo Mlangeni is a celebrated photographer based in Johannesburg. A graduate of the Market Photo Workshop in 2004, he is known for his portrayals of queer life, identity, and community. His series Country Girls documents queer experiences in rural Mpumalanga. Working primarily in black and white, Mlangeni captures the beauty of everyday life and emphasises moments of rest, celebration, and vulnerability. His work is held in prominent collections such as the Tate Modern in London, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Johannesburg Art Gallery.
