Sfiso Ka Mkame

South African 1963- 

Sfiso Ka Mkame was born in Clermont, Durban, in 1963. A largely self-taught artist, he employs a method of layering colour planes of oil pastel and then scratches through the surface to produce rich patterning, emulating African fabric design. Zulu cosmology and human’s interdependence with their ancestors are interpreted through colour juxtaposition and harmony. His works also celebrate the power of women and their nurturing role in society
