Sophia Van Wyk

South African 1981- 

Sophia van Wyk achieved her BA in Fine Arts at Stellenbosch University in 2003 and a Master’s in Fine Arts from the University of Johannesburg in 2015. Her works – mixed media sculptures and paintings – are biomorphic, abstract shapes though which she explores socio-political and personal moments. She has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows throughout her career, most recently Future Mythology, a solo exhibition at Everard Read, Cape Town (2022); SEDUCTION: A group exhibition at Everard Read, Cape Town (2022); and Seeds of the Fig, a group exhibition curated by RESERVOIR, hosted at the Twee Jonge Gezellen Farm in Tulbagh, and presented by WHATIFTHEWORLD (November 2022 to April 2023).
