Thando Salman

South African 1997- 

Thando Salman (b. 1997, Eastern Cape) is a South African artist currently based in Kempton Park, Johannesburg. He studied Fine Arts at Wits University and his practice spans multiple mediums,
focusing on the contemporary experiences of black youth in South Africa, particularly young men in Johannesburg. Salman’s work delves into the theme of coming of age, creating sensitive portrayals of young men as they navigate childhood experiences and cultural connections in a modern world.


Salman’s figures are often positioned in isolated natural landscapes, juxtaposed with poisonous flowers, creating modern mythologies that explore the complexities of growing up in today’s society.
