About this Item
Opstal Estate is a 7th generation family owned farm, located in the picturesque Slanghoek Valley, between the beautiful Badsberg and Drakensteyn mountains. The wines crafted by the passionate and skilful current custodian Attie Louw at his family's property have been instrumental in increased interest in the Breedekloof as the new frontier for old vine Chenin Blanc in the Cape.
From a single vineyard classified block on the farm, this reserve Chenin is named after Attie's great grandfather, the debut 2012 vintage drawing attention with a Platter's 5-star rating, and subsequent vintages have been impressing critics and consumers alike.

'A triumph from 36-year-old estate vines, the 2015's lengthier natural fermentation intensifies the complex rounded flavours of orchard fruit, vanilla cream & lifted citrus. Mostly older oak.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2017, 5*
'Dense and textural, this wine treads a fine line with fruit richness, sweet oak and bruleed length without ever being vulgar, over blown or excessive. This beautiful 2015 picked earlier in a drought year, retains sufficient acidity and displays fantastic balance and intensity. The wine tightens up impressively on the finish and displays more overt minerality with spicy ginger and lemon herb complexity. Drink now to 2028+' - Greg Sherwood MW 2017, 93+ Points
