About this Item

2013 Divas Chenin Blanc
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

DeMorgenzon first burst onto the scene in 2005 with this, their debut Chenin Blanc earning a Platter’s 5*, from low-yielding vines planted in 1972. Owned by the Wendy and Hylton Applebaum, the picturesque farm with 360° aspect and high views over False bay and Table mountain is perched on top of Stellenbosch kloof.

Having first burst onto the scene in 2005 with their debut Chenin Blanc earning a Platter’s 5*, DeMorgenzon has a history dating all the way back to the Simon van der Stel days of 1679. Coming from low-yielding vines planted in 1972 and one of only 2 vintages, owner Wendy Applebaum described these vines as her golden girls and thus the name was born. There were only 75 cases made and this was named as one of the three most exciting wines of the 21st Century by Wine Spectator’s Matt Kramer.

Critics Ratings

‘Carl van der Merwe calls this a “once every five years wine”. They hadn’t made a final decision on the name when I tasted it, so I hope it will be bottled as a stand-alone wine, because it’s remarkable, especially given that it comes from a young vineyard. Super complex, refined Chenin with a combination of focus and depth. Drink: 2015-22.’ – Tim Atkin, SA Wine Report 2015, 94/100

The 2013 The Divas Chenin Blanc is a single bottling from old vines planted in 1972 that proprietor Wendy Appelbaum describes as her "old girls," hence the name. It has a lovely nose with pure tropical tones that are beautifully controlled - pineapple, guava and brioche that is wonderfully defined. The palate is crisp and taut with a very fine line of acidity, linear and supremely well focused; the 30% new oak is neatly interwoven. It's irresistible now, although it will certainly repay cellaring. This is an excellent addition to the DeMorgenzon range.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (November 2015), 92/100
