Notes
The current lot is part of a serigraph printed in colour comprising of 54 interleaved plates titled Nesos. The publication was the culmination of four trips made to Greece by Battiss between 1966 and 1968. Battiss printed all the silkscreens himself, which explains the outstanding quality.
The handwritten colophon individualised by Battiss for each copy of the book reads:
"Nesos is the Greek word for island. The contents of this book are images from sixteen Greek islands that I know. All the serigraphs have been made by me and no printer has touched the pages. There are a few odd proofs and only 25 numbered copies. Walter Battiss, Athens, 1968."
