About this Item

2015 Mary Delany Semillon
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Botanica, located on Protea Heights farm, was founded in 2009 by owner and winemaker, Ginny Povall. Since Protea Heights farm was the first in South Africa to cultivate indigenous protea flowers commercially, it is fitting that the wine labels are floral themed. Just under half of the 21.6 hectares are planted with indeginous flowers, and since 2014 Botanica has been practising organic farming in their 5-hectare vineyards.

The Mary Delany Collection is crafted from grapes sourced from unique vineyard sites throughout the Cape. Each of the labels depicts a botanical collage created by British artist Mary Delany. These remarkable works of art were hand crafted in the late 1700s using hundreds of tiny pieces of cut paper.

This is the acclaimed maiden release of Semillon from Botanica.

Critics Ratings

'Fans of Ginny Poval’s Chenin will be excited to learn that her magic touch applies to Semillon too. This first release from a farm in Elgin was fermented in 2014 Chenin barrels and is delicious: waxy, spicy and herbal, with subtle oak, a drizzle of honey and a long, tapering finish. Drink: 2016-22' - Tim Atkin SA Wine Report 2016, 94/100

'Worthy first-release '15 joins illustrious range showing real Bordeaux character: oily texture, aromatic lanolin & white nuts, steely minerality. Elgin fruit fermented in older barrels produces an intricately detailed, complex stunner' - Platter SA Wine Guide 2017, 5*
