About this Item

1985 Estate Red
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Six generations of Louws have practiced the art of winemaking at Diemersdal since the Estate passed into their hands in 1885. More than 12 decades later, Diemersdal is a well-known landmark in the lush Durbanville Valley, one of the Cape’s oldest wine regions.

The first bottling under the Diemersdal label dates back to 1976, with the Estate Red surviving to this day under the MM Louw Estate Red label, and still viewed as one of the stand-out reds in the district of Durbanville.

Critics Ratings

'Nose is typical of wines from the 80's, slightly sweeter and riper. Time in the glass brings about sour cherry and cranberry notes with mushroom development at the back. The palate has a sweet entry, but is well balanced by a surprising freshness for a 35 year-old wine. Bouncy mouthfeel is supported by more rustic tannins. Not to keep for much longer.' - James Pietersen, Wine Cellar Feb 2020, 90/100
