About this Item

2015 Syrah
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Established in 2007 by the dynamic husband-and-wife team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have, in a very short space of time, established Mullineux as one of South Africa’s most celebrated producers. Their track record speaks for itself: Awarded Wine Enthusiast’s International Winemaker of the Year in 2016, Tim Atkin’s SA Winemakers of the Year in 2017 and Five times Platter's Winery of the Year (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023).

The aim with the Syrah is to give true and complete expression to the Shale & Schist and Granite terroirs in which the vines grow.

Critics Ratings

'A blend of the 3 soil types specified in the terroir range, half the time in barrel. Aromatic 2015 more serious than the seductive first impression; lush fruit & complex layers distract one from the lithe musculature promising a very long life. '- Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 5* (90/100)

'Seven different vineyards on a combination of granite, schist and iron soils make up the blend of this brilliant, textbook Syrah. Running to 35,000 bottles, it has a touch of new oak, wonderful fragrance and perfume, some whole bunch grip and a smoky, brambly mid palate. 2017-23' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 94/100

'Solidly built, with a core of raspberry and boysenberry pâte de fruit that unwinds slowly, while light iron, singed alder and tobacco notes emerge through the finish. Good latent energy here too, so you might gain more from cellaring this a touch.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Feb 2017)

'The 2015 Syrah includes two additional vineyards on granite soils after the 2015, whilst the whole bunch component is back up to 60%. It has a clean and precise bouquet with floral-tinged red berry fruit (red cherry and wild strawberry), nicely focused and developing more intensity with aeration. The palate is very well balanced with crisp acidity, fine structure, much more detail than the 2014 and I think that is down to the higher whole bunch proportion, the sense of energy flowing through on the long finish. Compared to the 2014 Syrah, I much prefer this: more freshness and complexity '- Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Apr 2017)

'This wine exhibits superb interplay between just-ripe fruit character and earthy, spicy tones. Notes of tree bark, fresh turned soil, cocoa nib and olive mingle harmoniously with fruity tones of black cherry and plum. A sanguine accent dances across the silky, medium-bodied palate, while a peppery kick unfolds on the lingering close. Drink now–2023.' - Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100 (Apr 2017)
