About this Item
Established in 2007 by the dynamic husband-and-wife team, Chris and Andrea Mullineux have, in a very short space of time, established Mullineux as one of South Africa’s most celebrated producers. Their track record speaks for itself: Awarded Wine Enthusiast’s International Winemaker of the Year in 2016, Tim Atkin’s SA Winemakers of the Year in 2017 and Five times Platter's Winery of the Year (2014, 2016, 2019, 2020, 2023).
Grapes for the Granite Syrah are sourced from a single parcel of 24 year old dry land, bush vines grown in the decomposed granite of the Paardeberg. This is the parcel of Syrah that gives the best expression of the Paardeberg’s terroir – freshness and perfume.

Critics Ratings
'Decomposed granite soils, Perdeberg vineyard. Real differences in 3 terroir syrahs/shirazes: 2014 plush dark fruit, hint of violets, a seam of minerality on palate, quite textural & tight, linear. Finishes dry & savoury. Also in magnum, as all this range.' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 4.5*
'The 2014 Granite Syrah comes from two vineyards in the Paardeberg. It has a very composed bouquet with raspberry, wild strawberry and perhaps it is a subconsciously induced reading, but warm granite aromas. The palate is medium-bodied, quite a feminine, supple Syrah that is very well balanced. There are layers of red cherry, strawberry and bergamot scents with a judicious pinch of white pepper that enlivens that finish. This is a very nuanced, terroir-driven Syrah that should give 12-15 years of pleasure.' - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Apr 2017)
'This is a well-defined version, with an iron edge adding cut to the mix of lightly steeped cherry and plum fruit. The finish picks up a singed alder accent. Drink now through 2019. 236 cases made.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (May 2017)
'There was no Granite Syrah in 2013, but this Paardeberg single vineyard release is back on top form in 2014. Floral, racy and aromatic, with 100% whole bunches adding some clove and pepper spice, this builds on the palate, with grippy tannins complementing the savoury red fruits. Impressive stuff. Drink: 2016-22 '- Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2016, 95/100
