About this Item

2008 Pessac-Léognan
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Château la Mission Haut-Brion is a Bordeaux wine from the Pessac-Léognan appellation, classed among the Crus Classés in the Graves classification of 1953. With a long history of winemaking, La Mission Haut-Brion has consistently performed as a wine and garnered the respect of many international wine critics. Jancis Robinson MW describes La Mission as "the quintessential insider's wine". Situated on uniquely stony soil, the vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc; the grand vin and second wine, La Chapelle de la Mission, are made from these. In 2009, the white wine previously made under the label of Château Laville Haut-Brion was added to the main La Mission Haut-Brion stable, and its annual production is between 500 and 700 cases.

Critics Ratings

‘Heady green, sappy aromas. Blackcurrant fruit and spice too, albeit less obviously than the herbal scent. Then, the palate gives way to more primary fruit, and it is still seems to be in the first flush of youth. Much more development is surely in store. Plenty of tannin to go the distance too.’ - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17++/20 (Aug 2019)

‘Like a lot of wines in this underrated vintage, the 2008 La Mission was one of the great bargains of recent vintages. Its healthy blue/purple color is followed by aromas of blueberries, black raspberries, licorice, truffles, underbrush and forest floor. The scorched earthy/smoky character of this estate’s terroir has not yet emerged. Medium to full-bodied and concentrated with good acidity, freshness and delineation, this is a big wine for the vintage, but also very classic in its balance of tannin, acidity and extract. It will benefit from another 5-7 years of cellaring and should keep for three decades. The final blend was 51% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot and 6% Cabernet Franc.’ – Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Aug 2012)

‘Barrel sample. A muscular wine, with well-defined tannins. The acidity is high, hiding the power and richness of the fruit behind. Then dark tannins come through, with other ripe fruits, finishing with a mineral character.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 96/100 (Dec 2009)
