Critics Ratings

Clos La Madeleine Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2009
‘The wine is an impressive blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Franc, made under the supervision of Hubert de Bouard. I don’t think Clos La Madeleine has ever made a better wine. This 2009 has liqueur of dusty chalk intermixed with red and black fruits, hints of blackberry and black cherry, and loads of full-bodied opulence yet great structure and definition. This is a sleeper of the vintage and a personal best for Clos La Madeleine, long under the radar of wine consumers. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2035.’ – Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (Dec 2011)

‘This big, solid, rich effort is packed with seemingly sweet fruits and firm tannins, with a bitter extracted feel. The wine has great weight, and it's a powerful expression of the rich 2009 vintage.’ – Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 90/100 (Feb 2013)

L'Arrosée Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2009
‘This outstanding l’Arrosee is consistent with the Burgundian style that this terroir routinely produces. Never massive, at its best it offers intense flavors of kirsch, raspberry, crushed rock, and spice box. The full-bodied flavors are ethereal in their delicacy. Full, but stylish, precise, intense, and never heavy, this beauty can be drunk early or cellared for two decades or more.’ – Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 92-94/100 (Apr 2010)

A very sleek, perfumy style, with lightly singed vanilla bean and mulling spice notes giving way to a range of damson plum, cassis and blackberry fruit. The lovely, fine-grained finish lets a mesquite hint chime in. Best from 2013 through 2021.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2012)

La Croix du Casse Pomerol 2000
‘A powerful and muscular young red. Very ripe, with smoky, meaty and berry aromas. Full-bodied, thick and powerful. What a mouthful. Velvety. Rich aftertaste. Best after 2008.’ – Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Mar 2003).

La Fleur de Boüard Lalande de Pomerol 2009
‘Over-achievers in short, the 2009 La Fleur de Bouard is fabulous, with notes of blueberry, plum, licorice, white flowers and camphor followed by a full-bodied, well-endowed, textured, supple wine. Stunningly concentrated, yet silky and seductive, it should be drunk over the next 10+ years.’ – Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Dec 2011)

‘Coffee, cola and toast notes frame blackberry and forest floor flavors in this dense red. Muscular tannins support a firm structure, but ease into the spicy, floral finish. Concentrated and polished. Best from 2014 through 2020.’ – Thomas Matthews, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Mar 2012)

Latour à Pomerol Pomerol 2012
‘A very strong effort from this estate in the Jean-Pierre Moueix stable, this 2012 (14.5% natural alcohol) has a dense ruby/purple color, a big, sweet kiss of mocha, blackcurrants, and black cherries, and notes of truffle and earth. Full-bodied, ripe and one of the great successes from this estate over recent decades, the 2012 is a must-purchase for Pomerol enthusiasts. Silky tannins, superb concentration and a long, long finish suggest a good 20+ years of evolution at minimum. Bravo!’ – Robert Parker Jr, Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (Apr 2015)

‘Bay, tobacco and mesquite notes lead the way, with a lush core of fig, boysenberry and plum fruit filling in quickly behind. Serious tobacco, charcoal and loam notes give the finish a hefty feel, but there's purity and polish here, too. Cellar for maximum effect. Best from 2017 through 2027.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Mar 2015)

Monbousquet Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2010
‘A lush, modern, style, with hyperdrive on the blueberry, loganberry and boysenberry fruit flavors. Nothing gets too heady though, as there's charcoal-studded grip, smoldering coffee grinds and roasted bay leaf notes all in the background for definition and further development with cellaring. Modern, yes, but firmly grounded in its terroir. Best from 2016 through 2035.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 95/100 (Mar 2013)

‘Deep garnet colored, the 2010 Monbousquet slides effortlessly out of the glass with seductive notes of baked plums, blackberry compote and dried mulberries plus hints of espresso, black olives and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is firmly structured with chewy tannins and lively acidity framing the Rubenesque fruit, finishing long and savory.’ – Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Mar 2020)

Yon-Figeac Saint-Émilion Grand Cru 2000
Deep healthy crimson with some oak still evident on the nose. A bit of interesting spice and real savour on the palate. This wine is still very youthful but has great vitality and a whack of ripe fruit hiding fine-grained tannins well.’ – Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 18/20 (Oct 2003)

‘Fascinating aromas of tobacco, berry, mineral and dried herbs. Full-bodied, with juicy, fine tannins and a long finish. Best wine ever from this estate. Score Range: 89-92/100.’ – Wine Spectator (2000)
