About this Item
Chris and Suzanne Alheit set the wine world on fire with their maiden 2011 Cartology receiving 96 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate. Aiming to harness the best old vineyards across the Cape, the Cartology offered a textured old-vine Chenin Blanc Semillon blend with startling purity and depth. Passionate and focused on the expression of place, tiny, long-forgotten parcels were added to the range, and are today South Africa’s most profound white wines. We auction maiden vintages of Magnetic Makstok on the legendary ‘Skurfkop’ in the Citrusdal area, Huilkrans in the Paardeberg, La Colline in Franschhoek, and, extremely rare Radio Lazarus in Stellenbosch.

‘From a young mixed vineyard next to Alheits’ Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge cellar - Roussanne, Chenin, Chardonnay and Verdelho. Roussanne-led 2015 evokes sunny floral charm; graceful, gentle texture, very long. Unobtrusive 14.5% alcohol. Native ferment, 60% older oak, rest cement ‘egg’.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2017, 5* (95/100)
‘The maiden 2015 Hemelrand Vine Garden comes from vines planted in 2010 around the winery: Verdehlo, Roussanne, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay and Muscat. It has a perfumed nose, less fruit and more resinous than its peers with beeswax and honeysuckle aromas, linseed and chalk emerging with time. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry. There is wonderful saline notes here, but perhaps a little more depth and fruit intensity on the finish with yellow plum, citrus peel and hazelnut. This constitutes one of Chris Alheit's best wines this vintage.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Apr 2017)
‘New to the Alheit portfolio, and unusual in that it’s made from grapes grown around the winery on the Hemel-en-Aarde Ridge, this is a Roussanne-based blend with some Chardonnay, Verdelho and Chardonnay. Herbal, peachy and complex, showing plump, supple favours and a hint of oak.’ - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2016, 92/100
