Salvioni is a leader in the cult Brunello genre, along with the likes of Soldera and Biondi-Santi. Based in Montalcino, Salvioni owns one of the commune’s best and most well-recognized crus – ‘La Cerbaiola’ – in the southeast of Brunello di Montalcino. While only a mere 4-hectare plot of old, low-yielding vines, Giulio Salvioni and his strict standards produce one of the region’s greatest, most sought-after wines from this site. The winemaking is kept traditional and simple. Known for their incredible purity, elegance and long-ageing structure, Salvioni’s small-batch wines are a true triumph for artisanal winemaking in the region.

‘The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino La Cerbaiole is an unexpected wine. This beautiful expression shares very little with its peers. The wine achieves the signature style and elegance that is so unique to Salvioni despite the warm vintage. The results are ethereal and deep with classic aromas of dark fruits and spice. But the bouquet is unusual in that it also offers very sophisticated layers of pressed flowers, cloves, dusty mineral and grilled rosemary. The tannins are enormously silky and polished.
