Wendy Morris is a South African artist, born in Namibia and now based in Belgium. She studied with Bill Ainslie at the Johannesburg Art Foundation and completed her undergraduate studies and Masters degree at the University of South Africa. She works “between moving image, diaries, letters, drawings and sound works. Her work explores fictional, documentary and autobiographical genres and is concerned with colonial migrations, religious dissent and archaeological traces.1."
In 2013, Morris completed her doctorate ‘Drawing on the Past’, which encompassed five animated films and a set of 52 letters, at KU Leuven. Morris is currently a professor in Contemporary Arts at the University of Leuven and teaches at the LUCA School of Arts, where she set up the interdisciplinary Deep Histories Fragile Memories research initiative.

The Federated Union of Black Artists Arts Centre (FUBA) was established in 1978 in Johannesburg. In 1982, British artist Anthony Caro visited FUBA and initiated a collection of artworks for the gallery. He encouraged local and international artists to donate works to the collection, including Henry Moore and David Hockney. When FUBA later ran into financial difficulties the collection was sold and the centre closed.
