About this Item
Considered among the new age icons responsible for the Swartland’s success, and a driving force behind the Swartland Revolution, Adi Badenhorst was one of the first to really believe in the area and purchased Kalmoesfontein back in 2008 with his cousin Hein. Over the last decade, 41 hectares of old vines, the oldest planted back in 1952, have been farmed back to glory. They practice biological farming and make natural wines in the traditional manner.
Sourced from specific, beautiful old vine vineyard sites in Swartland.

Critics Ratings
'It's an invidious choice, but this is my pick of the array of superb Badenhorst Chenins in 2018. Sourced from a very rocky "haut granitika" site, as it says on the label, this is a world class white. Stony, pithy, chiselled and complex, it's appley and saline, with the faintest hint of wood and a finish that lingers hauntingly on the tongue. 2020-30' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 96/100.
'Top notes of flowers and herbs before white and yellow fruit plus hints of earth and spice. The palate shows lovely focus and energy – pure fruit, fresh acidity and a gently savoury finish.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 94/100 (Oct 2019)
'From low-vigour vines in shallow granite soils, 2018 understated & assured. Nuanced quince rather than stonefruit, wet terracotta earthiness & persistent sweet-fruited finish. 11 months in large chestnut foudre aids integration, not aromatic/flavour development.' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2020, 4.5* (93/100)
