Critics Ratings

Serious wine drinkers don’t wait for the guaranteed garlands: these +-6000 cs fly out of cellar on release. Fruit from +-30-yr-old bushvines, +-16 months French oak, 90% new. 01 bright cherry laced with banana, richly cosseted by balanced structure. Old World hem to New World suit. 14.5% alc.’ – Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2004, 4.5*

‘Good deep red. Aromas of black raspberry, currant and smoke. Sweet, lush and broad, with enticing berry flavors. Wonderfully round, inviting pinotage, finishing ripely tannic, long and sweet. "We look for sweet flavor, but that same element is what will give the wine secondary forest floor flavors after five years," notes Beeslaar. "The tannins are soft but that doesn't mean they're not there."’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous.com, 90/100 (Mar 2005)

Right on stride, with a nice lacing of cedar and espresso bean guiding the dark, macerated plum, fig and currant fruit. Features maduro tobacco and bittersweet cocoa notes on the finish, with a graphite hint as well. Non-blind Kanonkop vertical tasting (2010). 6,307 cases made.’ – Wine Spectator, 91/100 (2010)

‘There's a wonderfully spicy, deep and briary character here, wrapped around a rich, berry-fruited core, with intriguing notes of violets and kirsch. On the palate a chocolaty richness and sweet blackberry fruit extend into a long, harmonious finish.’ – Tom Cannavan, Wine-pages.com, 90/100 (2005)
