About this Item
Neil Ellis pioneered the négotiant, or non-estate, concept of sourcing grapes from growers all over the Cape and producing wine from the early 70s and, today, has become a pillar and legend of the local industry. Neil’s vision has always been to ‘make distinctive, refined wines that are expressive of their terrain and rank amongst South Africa’s finest’ and, with more than three decades of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon production under his belt, there are not many who could do it any better.
Grapes from 20-year-old bush vines.

Critics Ratings
'Adds origin to name since last-tasted 2012 (4 stars, 87 pts) ex Jonkershoek; 2015 full-bodied yet elegant with restrained fruit, lively tannins boding well. 16 months larger oak, 50% new.' - Platter’s SA Wine Guide, 5* (95/100)
'Located close to the farm from which Chris Alheit gets his Radio Lazarus Chenin Blanc, this Bottelary red is made from 25-year-old vines. Aged in older wood, it’s floral and intense with bramble and raspberry fruit and fine-boned tannins. 2018-23' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 93/100
'The nose is particularly enticing with notes of cherries, plums, fynbos, earth and spice. The palate is relatively medium bodied and well structured – fruit which is pure and sweet in the best sense, lovely fresh acidity and fine tannins. Possessing real depth of flavour and a finish that’s long and savoury, it’s one of the best judged expressions of the variety currently out there.' - Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 95/100 (Jan 2018)
