About this Item
Eben Sadie is South Africa’s most revered winemaker and he arguably kick-started the local fine wine revolution. Over two decades his pursuit for quality in the Swartland has been unparalleled in South Africa and he was voted Winemaker of the Year in 2017 by the International Master of Wine Institute. Eben’s wines were influenced by the Rhône and Spain, with traditional local varieties sourced from pockets of old bush vines and unique terroirs. Long-ageing Columella is often regarded as South Africa’s best red, while Palladius similarly offers an incredible Swartland expression and decades of longevity. The old vine single vineyard series, which was first released in the 2009 vintage, is now firmly the most sought-after release of the year. Mev Kirsten is South Africa’s rarest white wine, produced from a century old Stellenbosch vineyard, while the now legendary Skurfberg received 100 points from Tim Atkin in 2020.
The tiny production of his Old Vine Series makes them South Africa’s most sought-after wines. The 2014 Old Vine Series T'Voetpad is a field blend of grape varieties, including Sémillon Blanc, Sémillon Gris, Chenin Blanc, Palomino and Muscat. The vineyard was first planted on the Piketberg Mountains in 1887, making it one of South Africa's oldest vineyards. Extremely rare and only offered to the market in limited 3-bottle allocations.

'The 2014 Old Vine Series T Voetpad comes from vines planted in 1887 and where Eben said works the most. A field blend of Semillon Blanc and Gris, Palomino, Chenin Blanc and Muscat, it has an extremely complex bouquet with white fennel, tarragon and rosemary infused tropical fruit with subtle resinous scents developing with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with a slightly honeyed texture, just a pinch of white pepper and fennel, and extremely well balanced with a harmonious, ineffably complex finish that lingers long and tenderly in the mouth. With the Mev Kristen, this is Eben's best Old Vine Series White in 2014. Stunning.' - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Nov 2015)
'Planted between 1887 and 1928, the source for this wine is one of the oldest vineyards in South Africa. A blend of Semillon, Semillon Gris, Palomino, Chenin Blanc and Muscat, it’s mealy, complex and focused, showing skin tannins and structure and a sappy, oyster shelllike note. Drink: 2015-22' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2015, 96/100
'Dense, with white peach, pear, quince and yellow apple fruit flavors forming a prodigious core. Remarkably racy and stony in feel overall, with blanched almond and salted butter notes keeping everything tightly harnessed through the finish. Chenin Blanc, Sémillon, Palomino and Muscat d'Alexandrie. Best from 2017 through 2022.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Apr 2016)
