The present lot is a portrait of Uys Krige (1910-1987), a South African writer known for his novels, short stories, and poems. Originally intended as a book cover, this painting likely depicts Krige reading from a notebook where he recorded his translated verses. This scene is believed to date back to approximately 1982.
