About this Item

2017 Die Agteros Chenin Blanc
6 (1 x 6) 750ml

Joostenberg, situated in Muldersvlei district in Stellenbosch, has belonged to the Myburgh family since 1879. Originally established by a Swedish settler in the late 1600’s, the farm contains an old ‘Cape Dutch’ Manor House which has been declared a national monument. The 5th generation of Myburgh family members now run the business.

Organic Certification
Both farmed and made according to organic practices, certified by ECOCERT (mostly Europe) and other organisations.
Certified organically grown grapes - no use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Use of certain cover crops, methods of soil care, and other specified vineyard care.
Wine made according to strict standards - use of approved, organic yeast, and no added sulfites or other specified additives. Does not imply that the wine is vegan (allows for specified fining agents (including egg whites) and enzymes). In certain regions this is extended to chaptalisation and acid addition.

Named after an old Afrikaans saying "agteros kom ook in die kraal" (translated as "the hind ox also gets there"), meaning "patience and persistence will be rewarded". In the old days, when teams of oxen were used to pull farm implements, the youngest and least experienced ox in the team was positioned at the back. Over the years as he got stronger and more skilled he worked his way to the front. The grapes used to make this wine came from the oldest vineyards on the farm. These lovingly tended vineyards, under-valued in their youth, bore fruit for many years before their real potential was realized. In order to optimize the influence of terroir the vineyards were managed according to organic principles and were dry-farmed.

Critics Ratings

‘The 2017, meanwhile, is that much more sophisticated. The nose shows top notes of flowers, herbs, ginger and other spices before white peach and citrus. The palate is luscious without being “fat” or greasy – great fruit expression, fresh acidity and a saline finish. Intricate and balanced and so pleasurable.’ - Christian Eedes, WineMag.co.za, 93/100 (May 2018)
