About this Item
Bodegas Briego is situated in the town of Fompedraza, Valladolid in Northern Spain, in the wine producing region of Ribera del Duero. The Benito Hernando brothers started re-planting Tempranillo vines on their family estate in 1988, and made their first wines in 1992. The family business currently has 77 hectares of vineyards, tended using organic practices (not certified).
Organic Farming
Farmed and made according to organic practices. Main reason for not being certified is to allow for intervention should it be deemed necessary to maintain production.
Self-regulated application of the below practices in vineyard and/or cellar.
No use of synthetic fertilisers, pesticides, or herbicides. Use of certain cover crops, methods of soil care, and other specified vineyard care.
Wine made according to strict standards - use of approved, organic yeast, and no added sulfites or other specified additives. Does not imply that the wine is vegan (allows for specified fining agents (including egg whites) and enzymes). In certain regions this is extended to chaptalisation and acid addition.
Provenance
Restaurant Mosaic
Critics Ratings
‘Ruby-red. Musky cherry and blackcurrant aromas are complicated by pipe tobacco and mocha. Smooth and fleshy, offering open-knit dark fruit flavors that pick up smokiness with air. Shows some warmth on the finish, which lingers with good fruit intensity.’ - Josh Raynolds, Vinous (Sept 2011)
