About this Item
Joostenberg, situated in Muldersvlei district in Stellenbosch, has belonged to the Myburgh family since 1879. Originally established by a Swedish settler in the late 1600’s, the farm contains an old ‘Cape Dutch’ Manor House which has been declared a national monument. The 5th generation of Myburgh family members now run the business.
Organic Certification
Both farmed and made according to organic practices, certified by ECOCERT (mostly Europe) and other organisations.
Certified organically grown grapes - no use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Use of certain cover crops, methods of soil care, and other specified vineyard care.
Wine made according to strict standards - use of approved, organic yeast, and no added sulfites or other specified additives. Does not imply that the wine is vegan (allows for specified fining agents (including egg whites) and enzymes). In certain regions this is extended to chaptalisation and acid addition.
This wine has become one of Joostenberg's most popular and recognized wines and a huge amount of effort, both in the vineyard and the winery was put into it. It is the only wine in their range that is sourced from a single vineyard and this along with the fact that it is very dependent on weather conditions means that the volume produced and the characteristics of the wine vary greatly from year to year. The grapes were sourced from a single, organically farmed, 21 year old Chenin Blanc vineyard.

Critics Ratings
‘Golden nectar from single old Chenin vineyard. Touch less botrytis to fresh lime marmalade scents on 2010; still beguiling, with poise that belies its full body, rich sweetness. Natural ferment/9 months in oak.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2012, 4.5*
