About this Item

2008 Tokaji Aszú 5 Puttonyos
6 (1 x 6) 500ml

The Count Degenfeld family has made wine in the Tokaji wine region of Hungary for over 200 years. The estate makes dry and sweet wines, including the revered Aszú wines, mainly using three of the main grape varieties in the region - Furmint, Hárslevelu and Yellow Muscat, from historical vineyards located in Mád and Tarcal. Since 2009, the 35 hectares have been managed by certified organic cultivation.

Organic Certification
Both farmed and made according to organic practices, certified by ECOCERT (mostly Europe) and other organisations.
Certified organically grown grapes - no use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, or herbicides. Use of certain cover crops, methods of soil care, and other specified vineyard care.
Wine made according to strict standards - use of approved, organic yeast, and no added sulfites or other specified additives. Does not imply that the wine is vegan (allows for specified fining agents (including egg whites) and enzymes). In certain regions this is extended to chaptalisation and acid addition.

Critics Ratings

‘The 2008 Tokaji Aszu 5-Puttonyos is a blend of Furmint, Zeta, Harslevelu and Koversulu aged for 24 months in 500-liter barrels. It has an uncomplicated nose of honey, almond and candied orange peel that would benefit from a little more delineation and vigor. The palate is better, with good acidity and light marmalade and orange peel notes.’- Neal Martin, Wine Advocate (Dec 2013)
