About this Item

2009, 2014, 2015 Le Haut-Lieu Sec
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

Founded in 1928 and known for their elegant, flinty style, Domaine Huets’ Vouvrays are amongst the longest lasting white wines in the world! Produced from 3 Chenin Blanc vineyards in varying degrees of sweetness depending on the vintage, the hallmark of Huet’s wines is their unmistakable freshness and natural acidity. Due to its extremely shallow, stony soils, Clos du Bourg often synthesizes Le Mont’s intense minerality with Le Haut-Lieu’s generous texture.

Biodynamic Certification
Farmed and made according to biodynamic practices, and certified by Demeter or Biodyvin. Based on the knowledge that the soil, plants, animals and farmers work together in one agricultural cycle. Only a certified organic producer can be considered for Biodynamic certification.
Demeter have rules on growing and vinification is stricter than organic certification – for example, less use of copper sulphate per hectare, and the requirement for natural yeasts for fermentation.
Similar to organic farming, biodynamic farming uses no synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Biodynamic farming works to achieve soil health through the use of compost, animal and green manures; diversified crop rotations; and incorporation of livestock. However, the two agricultural systems differ in that biodynamic farmers rely on eight specific preparations for the soil, crops and compost to enhance soil and plant quality, and to stimulate the composting process. The eight preparations, designated by their ingredients or by numbers 500 to 507, are made from cow manure; silica; the flowers of yarrow, chamomile, dandelion and valerian; oak bark; and the stinging nettle plant. A ninth prep, often referred to as 508, is made from horsetail and is used for fungal disease.

Critics Ratings

2009 -This is chiseled and pure, with lovely precision to the quince, fig and honeysuckle notes all buttressed by mouthwatering acidity. Long finish.’ -James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Feb 2011)

2014 - A golden yellow color dresses the 2014 Vouvray Le Haut-Lieu Sec, which is still a baby on the nose, showing concentrated, almost tropical fruit flavors (pineapples, lemons) on the clear and fresh nose. Round and fruity on the palate, this medium to full-bodied, very elegant and persistent wine shows ripe and concentrated fruit, a delicately yeasty texture with a very fine grip, and is followed by a long, intense finish packed with minerals and stimulating dashes of lemon juice and limestone minerals. There is an excellent purity of fruit and a structure giving minerality here. Since we know how well dry Huets can age, I would not touch it before 2020/21, although I am pretty sure the wine will be even better in 15 or 20+ years.’ - Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (Nov 2015)

2015 - ‘Primary but still minerally apple and pear fruit, glorious quince intensity on the palate. A light cedar note enhances the piercing freshness and the fruit is creamy and rich. Fabulous vintage and much too young but already delicious.’ - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17+/20 (May 2016)

‘Solidly ripe, with a full-bodied core of ginger, pear and persimmon notes allied to a racy spine that lengthens the finish, letting ginger, quince and green almond accents play out. This should age well in the cellar. Best from 2017 through 2027.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Sept 2016)
