About this Item
Founded in 1928 and known for their elegant, flinty style, Domaine Huets’ Vouvrays are amongst the longest lasting white wines in the world! Produced from 3 Chenin Blanc vineyards in varying degrees of sweetness depending on the vintage, the hallmark of Huet’s wines is their unmistakable freshness and natural acidity. Due to its extremely shallow, stony soils, Clos du Bourg often synthesizes Le Mont’s intense minerality with Le Haut-Lieu’s generous texture.
Biodynamic Certification
Farmed and made according to biodynamic practices, and certified by Demeter or Biodyvin. Based on the knowledge that the soil, plants, animals and farmers work together in one agricultural cycle. Only a certified organic producer can be considered for Biodynamic certification.
Demeter have rules on growing and vinification is stricter than organic certification – for example, less use of copper sulphate per hectare, and the requirement for natural yeasts for fermentation.
Similar to organic farming, biodynamic farming uses no synthetic fertilizers and pesticides. Biodynamic farming works to achieve soil health through the use of compost, animal and green manures; diversified crop rotations; and incorporation of livestock. However, the two agricultural systems differ in that biodynamic farmers rely on eight specific preparations for the soil, crops and compost to enhance soil and plant quality, and to stimulate the composting process. The eight preparations, designated by their ingredients or by numbers 500 to 507, are made from cow manure; silica; the flowers of yarrow, chamomile, dandelion and valerian; oak bark; and the stinging nettle plant. A ninth prep, often referred to as 508, is made from horsetail and is used for fungal disease.

Critics Ratings
2009 - ‘Dry, but still flattering in feel, with friendly green almond, quince and fig notes carried by a lilting floral hint on the finish.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Feb 2011)
2014 - ‘More spicy than the 2015 but with those similar ripe-sour fruit aromas. Pure Chenin. This is where sweet and sour reaches a glorious balance rather than clashing (as on off-dry Sauvignon Blanc). As well as all that intense fruit there’s a smoky note and then a gorgeous flavour of mandarin on the palate and a long super-fresh finish.’ - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (May 2016)
‘Intensely yellow in color, the 2014 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec offers a very clear, intense and aromatic bouquet of ripe yellow fruits along with crushed stone flavors. The Demi-Sec version is even more open than the Sec, and the attack on the palate is lovely, round and fruit-intense, but also very mineral and firmly structured in the finish. This is a very elegant and mouth-filling Chenin with great finesse and a lingering salinity. It has good and grippy length. This wine is dangerously accessible already, though with an aging potential of 20-30, probably more years. The 20 grams per liter of residual sugar tastes quite sweet at the moment.’ - Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, 92+/100 (Nov 2015)
2015 - ‘The 2015 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec displays a well defined and complex bouquet of ripe and concentrated fruits intertwined with chalky flavors. Dense and elegant on the palate, with a mouth-filling fruit and a perfect sweetness that counterbalances the raciness and firm mineral structure, this is a finesse-full and powerful Chenin with lots of salt and tension. A gorgeous, precise and vivacious wine with great aging potential.’ - Stephan Reinhardt, Wine Advocate, 95/100 (Oct 2016)
‘Ripe pear with a note of quince and just-ripe apricot. Rich, sour and so full in the mouth. Intense, medium dry, utterly mouth-watering.’ - Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (May 2016)
